Internship Opportunities and Responsibilities in Crenshaw's Offices

The purpose of the Internship Program is to provide opportunities for college students, recent college graduates and others interested in public service to gain firsthand knowledge of the way in which a Congressional Office operates on a daily basis, to observe the legislative process at the federal level, and to develop research skills related to public policy. Interns work during the hours that the office is open, Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. on a volunteer basis (flexible during the school year).

Interns perform a variety of duties, depending on the capabilities and the interests of the particular individual. A mix of substantive and clerical work is always involved and the amount of each will depend on the immediate demands of the office. Intern support duties can range from making research inquires, tracking legislation and writing background memos to simply delivering messages throughout the day. Intern duties also include answering phones, processing mail and xeroxing. If you are interested in applying for an internship, please complete the application below and return the package to my office.

Interns are also encouraged to take advantage of learning experiences outside the office, including attending various congressional briefings and committee hearings and participating in special workshops, such as those conducted by The Library of Congress.
